Is There Room

Written as a way to process the silence I felt in response to the surge of anti-Asian attacks in February 2021. It is both a reminder to myself and to anyone else who may feel silenced.

is there room for my story here?

i know it took a lot of courage to speak up.
to finally break through your silence
to finally break through the silence
only to be heard as a whisper
desperate whispers that ask
can you hear me?
do you see me?
do you love me?

and now the resounding silence seems to confirm
the fears that kept you silent
the fear that maybe it is true that
you are invisible
your pain doesn't matter
you are not deserving of love

but know that there is a Love that is
unconditional
abundant
present
that breaks through the silence and instead whispers
I hear you
I see you
I love you

gentle whispers that remind you of the truth that
you are worth it
you matter
you are loved

there is room for your story here.
