Words

My creative lens is one of a Chinese American woman married to an African American man. The stories we carry on our own and the one we share together influences my art – what I create and the words I write. Often from a place of lament or grief, I write and create as a way to find hope, a way to find peace amidst our reality. I am grateful for a space to be able to share these pieces of my heart with all of you and hope you feel seen and loved through it all.

Written as a way to process the silence I felt in response to the surge of anti-Asian attacks in February 2021. It is both a reminder to myself and to anyone else who may feel silenced.

Written as an encouragement for those in the process of finding their own creative voice.

Written in response to the killing of Daunte Wright and in reflection of a police encounter my husband and I had outside of church. A lament for the things I have seen him experience or experienced with him, and the burden and pain he carries because of the way this world sees him. A wish for my husband, who I love with my whole heart — April 16, 2021

Written as an exploration of what Love is to me now, and inspired by our floral concept of Love, created in collaboration with Alabaster Co. for Chapter One of FRUITJuly 20, 2022
